4D Ultrasound Is The Newest Tool For Birth

4D ultrasound is the newest and most exciting way to get a picture of your baby's face. These scans allow you to see your baby's eyes, nose, mouth and head. You can even see your baby's heartbeat.

Welcoming your child into this world is an exciting experience. Seeing your child for the first time is a priceless moment, and waiting can feel like forever! Somewhere in the pregnancy journey, you want to get a glimpse of your unborn child. The curiosity will peak, and you can’t wait to see your little ball of sunshine.

Thankfully, ultrasounds exist. The latest imaging technology advancements such as 4D ultrasound can provide you with moving, detailed images of your unborn child. Now you can have that precious glimpse of your baby in motion! At the same time, your obstetrics specialist can better visualize your child’s progress and development.

What is 4D ultrasound?

Much like regular ultrasounds, 4D ultrasound uses sound waves to produce the child’s image in your womb. The difference is 4D ultrasound lets you see your baby in action as it creates a live video effect like a movie. Imagine watching your baby smile or even yawn!

Parents love 4D ultrasounds as they let you see your baby’s face for the first time. But more than that, 4D ultrasound is excellent for showing a better visualization of your child’s development. It is easier to see specific congenital disabilities such as cleft palate in a 4D ultrasound than a standard ultrasound.

What are the Benefits of a 4D Ultrasound?

Aside from seeing your baby’s face for the first time, 4D ultrasound – like other ultrasounds – can help check several variables when you’re pregnant. Examples include your child’s age, development and growth, heart rate, and position in your uterus. It is also easier to spot any issues in your uterus, ovaries, cervix, or placenta with 4D ultrasound.

What happens during the procedure?

Like other ultrasound procedures, you’ll have to lie down, and the ultrasound technician will put a gel on your abdomen. The technician will then hold a transducer or probe against your stomach and move it around to get an image.

Usually, a 4D ultrasound procedure lasts approximately 20 to 40 minutes. The optimal time to perform it is around 27 to 30 weeks into the pregnancy.
